After yesterday, it can only get better.  So for one week at least, Tuesday is not the worst day.

  • There are 88 refs set to call the NCAA tourney games this week.  Guess how many are from the Pac-10?  19!!!!!!  I believe that is the most of any conference.  On behalf of all fans of Pac-10 teams, I apologize in advance.  On an exciting note, you are sure to see things that you never thought were possible.
  • During the halftime warmups of the Big East title game, Syracuse legend Derrick Coleman came out of the stands to give current Orange big man Rick Jackson a lesson in post moves.  Call that reason #8,756 on why college basketball is so special.
  • How many SEC teams earned at-large bids into the Big Dance this year? 2.  How many SEC teams are happy and stable at the head coaching position? 4.  Billy Donovan, Bruce Pearl, Rick Stansbury and Kevin Stallings have some credit at their university and nationally.  The rest of the league's coaches are new to their school or are struggling to keep their job.  That's why SEC basketball is in the toilet.
  • For comparison's sake, 9 of the 12 SEC football coaches are resting comfortably right now.
  • One of the three newbies, Lane Kiffin, scored the last high-profile football recruit of the season by signing 5-star RB Bryce Brown.  Kiffin's made a lot of negative noise nationally, but I'm guessing that the folks down in Rocky Top are not turned off by his aggressive nature to all thing's football.  They were looking for a change from passive Phil Fulmer and they got it.
  • There's been a major trend towards younger NFL head coaches.  One thing that comes with age is patience and that quality is lacking in many of these young guns.  It's one thing if new Broncos HC Josh McDaniels is not sold on Jay Cutler has his QB, but the public feud that he has helped create is hurting the franchise.  He looks bad and even worse, Cutler looks bad.  So, if you do want to trade him, you've lessened Cutler's value and undermined yourself in the process.
  • Tom Coughlin and Bill Bellichick may seem like grumpy old men, but they rarely expose an asset in the public forum.  When discussing Plaxico Burress, Coughlin and GM Jerry Reese have kept quiet and stayed positive in the hopes that they can still get something for him in a trade.  Bellichick says nothing of interest to the media, so all his players are judged by their on-field performance, which has obviously been the best in the league this decade.  Therefore, when they hit the trade market, they tend to be overvalued like Deion Branch or maybe even Matt Cassel.
  • Apparently, I was not the only person with car trouble yesterday.  This Carl Landry story is lucky to have a decent ending.
  • The U.S. will be eliminated from the World Baseball Classic tonight by Puerto Rico (just a prediction).  The media will cover it as a national disappointment, but the truth is no one really cares.  We are favorites in this tourney only in our own minds.  The Latin and Asian rosters matchup fairly well and they are in much better form than most of the American players.  Baseball fans knew that already.  If there was a World Football Classic and the U.S. did not win then we should be embarrassed.
  • Just for a quick rundown of the madness ahead.  Later today, I'll post the March Madness podcast I did last night with Bootsy.  Tomorrow, I will break down each of the four regions and post my bracket.  Thursday and Friday, I will be camped out during the day watching every single game (thank you DirecTV) and I'll provide updates and analysis.  Remember, you can also follow MooreSports on Twitter.
  • Now, your daily One Shining Moment from Carmelo's year.
